Suspect arrested in Maryland after killing father of 5 in Charlotte, police say

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says a suspect has been arrested after allegedly killing a father of five in early October.

Channel 9 reported when 32-year-old Jamario Caldwell was shot just after getting home from dropping his kids off at school. It happened in Charlotte’s Belmont neighborhood on Oct. 8.

The shooting devastated Caldwell’s family. They called him Mario, and the father of five had a love for his children that was endless.

“This has just destroyed our family,” Tony Caldwell Rainey told Channel 9 in October. “We love my cousin, we want justice for my cousin.”

On Thursday, CMPD announced a break in the search for justice.

Police said last Friday, investigators went to Prince George County Maryland and arrested 39-year-old Corey Livingston in connection with the shooting.

CMPD said Livingston will be extradited to Mecklenburg County to face a murder charge. A mugshot hasn’t been made available yet.

We’re working on getting more details. Check back for updates.
