CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after surveillance video captured a suspect multiple shots at a car in the Dilworth neighborhood.
CMPD said close to a dozen shots fired into a car is not a crime they typically see in the Dilworth neighborhood. Officers said no one was injured.
The Audi SUV was parked in a driveway when it was hit by multiple gunshots. The car's owners, Wendal Neumann and Jubliee Brown, said at least three of the bullets went through the car and hit the side of the home.
"The entire windshield, shattered and looking forward bullet holes," Brown said. "We live really clean lives. We don't have anybody who would target us. This has got to be completely random."
The couple said they hope someone might recognize the suspect's car from the released surveillance footage.
Surveillance video showed the suspect's car as a light colored sedan with a large dent on the back driver's side door.
"The possibility that this could happen to anybody else and possibly not just have a car damaged, but have a loss of life is just unthinkable," Brown said.
"These guns really serve no purpose other than violence," Neumann said. "This kind of gun in the wrong hands is obviously very lethal."
The couple said the overwhelming support they have received from neighbors and random members of the community is comforting.
They said they are hopeful the person responsible is caught soon and are also offering an award for any information that might lead to an arrest.
