CHARLOTTE — For some kids, a week of summer camp can change their lives. A free camp in the Charlotte area is intending to do just that.
Impact Camp is held at Johnson C. Smith University’s Brayboy Gym and will be packed with 200 boys ranging from ages 8 to 13 years old.
Channel 9′s Anthony Kustura spoke with counselor Jacobe Smith about his role at the camp.
“They’re like my little brothers. It’s like a family now. I learned a lot from these guys. I learned a lot from the kids,” Smith said.
The camp allows the boys to connect through sports, as well as learn about college and various career fields.
Smith said that was a big help for him as he heads off to college in just a few weeks. He said he is planning to study music and business.
“I didn’t know what entrepreneurship was until I got here,” Smith explained.
