CHARLOTTE — Sugar Creek Brewing Co. is bringing home a gold medal following the World Beer Cup this week in Nashville, Tennessee. The Charlotte brewery took the top honor for its Belgian Quad in the Belgian-Style Abbey Ale category, which received nearly 100 entries.

It’s one of four local breweries to snag medals at the high-profile WBC, held in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America at the Music City Center in Nashville.

The competition, hosted by the nonprofit Brewers Association, this year evaluated 10,213 entries from 2,376 breweries in 51 countries.

In all, more than a dozen breweries across North Carolina and South Carolina won medals, including six golds. Check out the list here.
