CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With millions of Americans gearing up for one of the year’s busiest shopping weekends, which retailers are offering shoppers the biggest bang for their buck? Personal finance website WalletHub has released a new analysis in an attempt to answer that question.
The retailer to land atop WalletHub’s ranking is none other than Charlotte-based Belk for offering the steepest discounts this Black Friday.
That designation came after WalletHub surveyed 7,000 Black Friday deals from 35 of the nation’s biggest retailers. After viewing the ads, it analyzed the average discount that each retailer plans to offer, with the exception of deals that didn’t have calculable percentage markdowns. WalletHub said it gave more credit to retailers discounting higher-ticket items by weighting the average deal based on the pre-discounted price.
Belk shoppers can expect average savings of 68.9% off merchandise this Black Friday from the national department store chain, according to the study. That’s up from 62.8% last year.
