CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two students climbed a 137-foot crane over the campus of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte on Monday night as part of a stunt, officials said.
They took a photo and it was shared on social media to more than 20,000 people.
"It's bad,” student Amando Chavez said. “He could have gotten hurt and just fell."
University officials said they have identified the student in the photo which they believe was taken by a second person who also climbed to the top.
"I think that's crazy,” student Noah Kaklan said. “I don't know anyone who would be that risky."
"The students’ actions are being reviewed under the university's disciplinary procedures,” university officials said in a news release. “Additionally, university police are reviewing his actions for any violations of criminal law."
Today we could clearly see fencing around the parking deck expansion project. There are also clearly marked "warning" and "no trespassing" signs nearby.
"Safety-wise, no, it's not OK, but it's his risk he's willing to take, so let him do it," student Lauren Clay said.
University officials are conducting a campus safety tour, looking for any potential problems.
