SHELBY, N.C. — A teen was seriously hurt when she was thrown from her car Tuesday after a crash near Shelby, officials said.
Loren Jones, 18, told troopers that she was driving to Crest High School on Wesson Road when she lost control, drove off the road and went through a barbed-wire fence.
Jones’ car went about 40 feet uphill and she was thrown through the windshield. She landed 60 feet in front of her car.
Officials said Jones was driving about 80 mph when she lost control. Troopers told reporter Ken Lemon that Jones told them she was late for class. She was about two miles from the school.
Troopers said Jones has serious but not life-threatening injuries.
