CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said a 15-year-old girl has been charged after she brought a loaded handgun to Olympic High School on Monday.
School officials said they received a tip and found the weapon during a search of the student's belongings.
"This is a very serious matter and the student is being disciplined to the fullest extent based on our Code of Student Conduct. We are asking our parents to please speak to your children about the severity and consequences for poor choices that can potentially put students and staff in danger," said Principal Erik Olejarcz in a message to parents.
The student is facing charges for having a weapon on school grounds and possessing drug paraphernalia.
