UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Students and staff at Union County Public Schools are mourning the loss of a third grade teacher.
A spokesperson for the district told Channel 9 that Ashley Streitman, a teacher at Shiloh Valley Elementary School, had been with the district since 2019.
Additional counselors were at the school Monday to provide support for students and staff.

Several people who knew Streitman took to Facebook to speak about who she was.
“I am still in shock one of the sweetest caring teachers my child has had,” one commenter said. “She loved her so much. Treated each child as her own. Praying for the family and also all the students.”
According to her syllabus on the school website, Streitman grew up in Union County and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She was engaged to her fiancé, who she met in high school, the syllabus says.
