DAVIDSON, N.C. — Basketball superstar and Charlotte-area native Steph Curry and his wife, Ayesha, have teamed up with Davidson College to launch the Curry Family Women’s Athletics Initiative, ESPN reported late last week.
That scholarship endowment will focus on promoting equity athletics at the two-time NBA MVP’s alma mater.
“One thing about me is I never forget where I came from,” Curry said in a video posted on social media, noting the contributions of “strong, powerful” women in his life. “And now, as the father of two girls, I want them to grow up without any boundaries on their futures.”
This one hits home…@ayeshacurry & I are excited to announce the Curry Family Women’s Athletics Initiative aimed at helping close the inequity gap in women’s sports starting with @DavidsonCollege. He pointed out the well-publicized disparity in funding between the men’s and women’s programs in top-tier college sports — a cause he has championed for years now.
