STATESVILLE, N.C. — The Prince mural in Statesville will be coming down and city officials said it was never meant to be permanent.
The owner of the building gave the artist permission to paint the side of the building in a preparation for an annual festival.
The mural has gotten a lot of attention on social media.
“I think it should be left up,” resident Deanna Jimenez said. “It's a work of art honestly.”
There was no permit filed to paint the mural and no one from the city ordered the artist to take it down after last weekend's Jazzfest, city officials said.
The city said they appreciate the positive impact it has received.
Dozens of people arrived Monday morning to get a picture next to the mural.
“There's a lot of negative stuff and graffiti but this is beautiful art work,” resident Betty Barnes said.
