4 minors accused of leading police chase from Concord into Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Four minors are accused of leasing a chase in a stolen car from Concord into Charlotte, police said.

The Concord Police Department they were called Monday around 3:30 a.m. to Gateway Lane. The caller said they saw four people who wearing masks and pulling car door handles.

When an officer arrived, the suspects drove off, hitting the back of a Concord patrol car as they left.

Police said the suspects then got on Interstate 85 South so the highway patrol assisted them. Troopers were able to use a PIT maneuver to stop the car and police took the four suspects, all of whom were under the age of 18, into custody.

A Channel 9 crew found a charred North Carolina State Highway Patrol car being pulled out of the woods Monday morning. Police had inbound Billy Graham Parkway closed at Josh Birmingham Parkway.

The car the suspects were in was reported stolen out of Charlotte, Concord police said.

Concord police petitioned the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice for the suspects. All four are charged with attempted common law robbery.

A secure custody order was issued for the driver, who was also charged with felony fleeing to elude and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, authorities said.
