Stanly Middle placed on lockdown after ‘unsubstantiated’ threat, district officials say

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — Stanly Middle School was placed on lockdown temporarily at 1:40 p.m. Friday afternoon following an “unsubstantiated” out-of-state phone threat made toward South Stanly High School, officials said.

South Stanly High followed proper safety protocols at that time, the district said.

Students and staff members were taken to a reunification site out of an abundance of caution.

The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and parents were notified of it.

“We would like to thank the parents, students, and school staff for their cooperation and patience during this time,” the school district stated in a news release.

No further information was released.
