NC-based sporting goods chain closes after COVID-related challenges

CHARLOTTE — A Greensboro-based sporting goods chain is shutting its doors at all its stores, as well as its online sales.

Omega Sports said it has decided to close after 45 years in business.

The decision was made after the retailer faced COVID-related challenges and the ensuing supply chain shortages, inflation, and economic uncertainty, which all took a toll on them.

In a statement, Omega Sports said it will be winding down its operations from now through early summer.

“We are grateful for our incredible team of dedicated employees who have unselfishly and professionally served our customers and communities for over four decades,” the statement reads. “We are equally thankful for our longtime customers who have been loyal, supportive, and faithful to Omega Sports.”

Any questions about online orders and special orders can be sent to support@omegasports.com.

Omega Sports has two locations in Charlotte: The Arboretum in south Charlotte and the Park Road Shopping Center in south Charlotte.
