Speedway Motorsports execs revved up over ticket sales for Coca-Cola 600

CONCORD, N.C. — The annual Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday night is sold out for the second consecutive year, track officials confirmed this week.

Speedway executives did not disclose how long it had been since the race sold out prior to 2022 but characterized the consecutive sellouts as an important benchmark. Seating capacity at the speedway, located just across the county line in Concord, is 79,000, with room for up to 95,000 people depending on standing room and infield attendance.

As of late Thursday afternoon, fewer than 200 standing room only tickets were available, the speedway said.

“This is the second year that we’ve sold out the grandstands and the camping, so it feels good,” speedway executive vice president and GM Greg Walter told CBJ. “The racing last year was really exciting, and I think we have found our voice with this race with this theme of patriotism and looking towards Memorial Day.”

Last year, the Coke 600 featured 13 different leaders and 31 lead changes.

Walter sees momentum, too, from parent company Speedway Motorsports bringing back the NASCAR All-Star Race. From 1985 to 2019, Charlotte Motor Speedway hosted the all-star event the week before the Coke 600, creating a groundswell of racing activity throughout the month of May, including qualifying rounds, lower-tier NASCAR races, fan festivals, and so on. The only exception was in 1986, when Speedway Motorsports’ Atlanta track staged the all-star race.
