ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — One person died Thursday evening in Alexander County after a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
It happened around 6:40 p.m. on U.S. Highway 64 near Golf Course Lane in Taylorsville.
A 2001 Harley-Davison Sportster was traveling east on U.S. 64 when it lost control, crossed the center line, and hit a westbound 2003 Chevrolet truck head-on.
The driver of the motorcycle, 33-year-old Charles Eugene Moore of Taylorsville, died at the scene, according to troopers.
Another crash followed when another eastbound car struck the motorcycle driver after the first collision.
The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers said the preliminary investigation showed excessive speed from the Harley-Davidson was a contributing cause to the first crash.
The area where the crash happened was closed for over four hours.
