GASTONIA, N.C. — State troopers said a woman died a day after being hospitalized in a 5-vehicle crash that shut down a portion of Interstate 85 in Gaston County.
Emergency crews had to close the southbound lanes of I-85 for nearly two hours after a multi-car crash Tuesday morning.
The crash happened around 9:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 22 in Gastonia.
Witnesses told Channel 9 that a white sedan rear-ended a black SUV near Coz Road and that drivers swerving to miss that collision caused a second wreck involving two cars and a box truck.
According to the Gastonia Fire Department, four people were taken to the hospital, two of them with serious injuries.
Troopers announced on Thursday that Jalisa Jones, of Charlotte, dies Wednesday afternoon in the hospital.
There was no word yet on if any charges would be filed in the crash.
