CHARLOTTE — New apartments will continue to spring up across Charlotte in the coming months and year, including some high-rise projects in the heart of the city.
Most recently, developers broke ground in December on a high-rise multifamily building at 2025 Cleveland Ave., on the edge of South End and Dilworth. That parcel had served as the longtime home of Campbell’s Greenhouses & Nursery until the business closed in November.
At a site nearby, another high-rise apartment project is in the works in between those two neighborhoods. The developer spoke to CBJ last month about the firm’s early plans after buying the 0.6-acre lot at South Boulevard and East Park Avenue.
And in South End, Portman Holdings expects to go vertical on its 24-story apartment tower at the old Sycamore Brewing site at 2161 Hawkins St. in January or February.
In a different part of town, construction on NoDa Trailside — a 335-unit apartment development near the Lynx Blue Line Sugar Creek Station — is slated for completion in early spring, with a second phase expected to begin this winter. That same developer, Flywheel Group, said it could break ground on its massive Queens Park Commons mixed-use project in NoDa in late 2023.
Also in that surrounding area, a pair of boutique apartment projects are expected to deliver this year in NoDa and the nearby Belmont neighborhood.
Farther out in the region, a mixed-use development with both for-rent and for-sale housing is in the midst of a rezoning process in Matthews, two residential communities totaling 137 homes are slated to break ground this summer in Tega Cay, and a 123-home project is moving forward in Kings Mountain.
