CHARLOTTE — A driver in a Jeep is facing a felony charge after a crash that killed a motorcyclist last week in south Charlotte.
Pineville-Matthews Road near Providence High School was shut down at about 5:30 p.m. Friday due to the deadly crash, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
On Monday, CMPD said that Roy James Jackson was driving a Jeep Cherokee when he crossed into the path of a motorcycle that was going northeast on Pineville-Matthews Road. The motorcycle hit the Jeep, and the driver was thrown into the roadway.
Police said the driver of the motorcycle, 30-year-old Darren Lee Marshall, died at the scene.
CMPD said that Jackson was impaired at the time of the crash. He was arrested for felony death by a motor vehicle.
Jackson has since been released from the Mecklenburg County jail on a $25,000 bond.
