CHARLOTTE — A vacant office building in south Charlotte may finally be redeveloped for a grocery store.
The Morgan Cos., a developer with offices in Charlotte and Florida, has filed a rezoning petition for the 4.5-acre site at 11525 Carmel Commons Blvd. In 2015, the Charlotte Business Journal reported Lakeland, Florida-based grocer Publix Super Markets was eyeing the property for a new store.

Then, in February 2016, Publix North Carolina LP acquired the property, paying nearly $4.5 million. But the site, near the intersection of Carmel and Pineville-Matthews roads, has sat largely unchanged since.
