SOUTH CAROLINA — Thousands of students will be returning to the classroom next week due to a new school calendar.
York School District One, Clover School District, Chester County, and Chesterfield County School Districts have voted to switch to a modified calendar starting this 2023 school year.
While each of the modified calendars is different, all of them feature an earlier start date.
Channel 9 spoke with teachers who said the plan would give them and their students much-needed time to destress.
“The kids are so stimulated all the time. I don’t think their brains ever shut up. Kids need to relax. Adults need to relax,” teacher Wendy Howell said.
In Clover, classes will start on Aug. 8., which is a week earlier than last year. Their schedule also adds two new breaks during the year.
Classes in York School District One and Chester County School District will start on Aug. 7. And Chesterfield County School District will start on Aug. 2.
