SOUTH CAROLINA — South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has hinted at a potential run for governor in 2026, stating, “I’m considering it.”
According to the Herald, Wilson made the comment shortly before the Beaufort County GOP’s Executive Committee meeting on Monday, where he discussed his political future.
This makes him the second prominent Republican to express interest in the gubernatorial race, following U.S. Representative Nancy Mace’s similar consideration last week.
“I’m considering it,” Wilson said when asked about his potential candidacy. “I work for you,” Wilson told attendees at the Beaufort County GOP meeting.
Wilson emphasized that his decision would not be influenced by other potential candidates, including Mace, who has been vocal on social media about his record. He highlighted his support for Trump’s Title 42 policy and his efforts against drug cartels in the state. The GOP primary for the governor’s race is set for June 2026, with the current governor, Henry McMaster, unable to seek reelection due to term limits.
The 2026 governor’s race in South Carolina is shaping up to be highly competitive, with Wilson and Mace among the high-profile Republicans considering a bid. As the first open race since 2010, it is expected to draw significant attention and participation from various candidates.
