MONROE, N.C. — Dozens gathered Friday night at Monroe High School to honor and surprise Chancellor Lee Adams.
His mother was killed in a murder plot orchestrated by former Carolina Panther Rae Carruth. That plan was meant to kill Carruth's son, Chancellor, who was still in his mother’s womb at eight months.

Recently, the high school girls’ varsity basketball coach, Leroy Osborne, rallied his team to collect gift cards and Christmas presents for Chancellor.
“I wanted to make sure they understand that this holiday season is not about just them,” said Osborne, who met Chancellor for the first time Friday night.
Chancellor was named honorary captain while his grandmother Saundra sat courtside.
“Tonight, I'm going to play really hard for him,” said senior Destiny Wallace.
