ROCK HILL, S.C. — A judge has denied bond for the man accused of killing his father who was a well-known lawyer.
Osiris Hinton's lawyer said he has been struggling with mental illness.
"Simply, a misdiagnosis and wrong medication that resulted in a psychotic episode," said attorney Michael Brown.
Osiris Hinton's lawyer told the judge that Cyrus Hinton had an appointment this week to get a medication error fixed.
Attorney Michael Brown told the judge that Hinton suffered a "psychotic episode" because of wrongly prescribed mediation just before his father, Cyrus Hinton, was shot and killed Sunday at the family's home in Spartanburg.
Cyrus Hinton was a prominent Rock Hill criminal defense lawyer.
“Because of someone else, he has to deal with the loss of his dad,” said Osiris Hinton’s mother. “I have to deal with the loss of my husband.”
She asked the judge to help her son get treatment while in jail. Her son’s attorney said they’re still trying to get answers.
"The family knew something wasn't right and he was scheduled to see doctors just that next week," Brown said.
Brown asked the judge to let Osiris Hinton post bond so he could attend his father's funeral on Saturday.
The judge denied that request, but said that if Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright approved it, he could attend the funeral under guard.
