CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Some Concord residents were without water Tuesday morning after a water main break near the Cabarrus County Club.

City officials said crews had to shut off the water from Fairway Ridge to Forest Ridge drives at around 8 a.m. after a 12 inch main break on Weddington Road.

The water was turned back on about seven hours later. Officials said customers may experience some slight discoloration or air in their lines. Residents should allow their faucets to run until clear before drinking.

Channel 9 learned that about 150 to 200 homes were impacted.

According to officials, cold weather played a role in the break.

Gastonia water main break forces crews to shut off water for hours

Water service to people living along Patrick Street in Gastonia was shut off Tuesday morning after a water main break.

The road was closed between Franklin Boulevard and Craig Avenue to allow the city to make repairs to the water line.

At one point, the city said more than a dozen residents were without water.

Officials told Channel 9′s Gina Esposito that although they have seen a slight increase in water main leaks -- which is common during colder weather -- they cannot say for certain that this particular leak is due to the cold weather.

There was also a water main break reported in Stanley County on North Main Street.

All breaks have been fixed and water has been restored.
