Social media video threatens ‘war' on elementary school

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have stepped up police patrols at Reedy Creek Elementary School after someone posted videos on social media threatening war on the school.

The assistant principal at Reedy Creek Elementary sent out a Connect-Ed message to parents saying the person or persons making the threats are not connected to the school.

Channel 9 looked over a police report on the case and it showed that one of the messages said there would be “blood on the streets.” The message didn’t target any one person, according to the police report.

Parents are stunned and disturbed by the threats.

“A threat against elementary, it's beyond words,” Darius Knuckles said.

The message said that students and staff have been safe, but administrators have added extra security just to make sure.

“It's right down the street,” Nick Mainor said. “I think it's 2 miles, 3 miles away. It's not far.”

Police said that no one has been charged.

“It's a pity that we've come to this point, but if we have to do more to protect our children, I think we just need to do whatever we need to do,” Knuckles said.

Good afternoon Reedy Creek families,

This is assistant principal Robin Lyles.

Keeping you aware of incidents which affect the school is important to me.

You may see news stories about a social media threat to the school.

The adults making the threats are not associated with Reedy Creek.

Students and staff have been safe and instruction has been continuing as normal.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating these threats.

Safety and security of the school is important.

For that reason, we have extra security patrolling the school.
