CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer shot and killed an armed man at an apartment complex Tuesday, authorities said, prompting angry street protests Tuesday that continued into Wednesday morning.
The protests picked up again Wednesday night in uptown Charlotte and continued into Thursday morning, injuring both civilians and police and causing extensive damage.
A third night of protests gave way to quiet streets early Friday after the city's mayor enacted a curfew and rifle-toting members of the National Guard arrived to guard the city's business district.
CMPD released the video of the deadly encounter Saturday.
