Smokers in SC could be banned from lighting up while driving with kids

If a South Carolina bill becomes law, it could mean that smokers won’t be able smoke while they’re driving if a child is in the car.

A measure was introduced in the South Carolina House on Tuesday and was referred to a Committee on Transportation.

The bill states that if passed it would be “unlawful for a person to smoke a tobacco product in a motor vehicle in which a minor is a passenger.”

Under the legislation, if a person is caught, it would result in a $100 fine.

There was a similar measure that was introduced in 2011, but it never made it to the governor’s desk.
