At about 7:30 p.m., Rock Hill police arrived at the crash site in a wooded area behind the American Legion Post 34 on Heckle Boulevard.

The pilot, Robert Prestininzi, 49, of Fort Mill, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The NTSB tweeted it was investigating the crash involving a Piper PA-30 twin-engine plane that had one person on board.

“The pilot, who was the only person on board, was flying from LaGrange-Callaway Airport in Georgia to Rock Hill (York County) Airport - Bryant Field,” the FAA said in a statement.

According to the NTSB, the onboard flight tracking system showed the aircraft circling the Rock Hill area shortly before the crash.

The NTSB said it was unaware of any distress calls placed by the pilot.

The plane was recovered from the scene on Sunday and a preliminary report from the NTSB is expected to be released in two weeks.
