According to the NTSB, the onboard flight tracking system showed the aircraft circling the Rock Hill area shortly before the crash.
The NTSB said it was unaware of any distress calls placed by the pilot.
The plane was recovered from the scene on Sunday and a preliminary report from the NTSB is expected to be released in two weeks.
