MONROE, N.C. — Down a gravel road, on a quiet private farm in Monroe, a couple celebrated their wedding Saturday with family and friends.
That's when the Union County Sheriff's Office said Brooke Hunter, 23, and Katherine Phillips, 19, both from Lancaster, S.C., showed up uninvited with another woman driving the car.
"They did not come in as invited guests," said Union County Sheriff's Office Capt. Cody Luke, with the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Luke said some of the guests had stored their things in a room on the property and that Hunter and Phillips went inside.
He said they took cameras, including one that belonged to the photographer, along with guest's cash, a phone and medication from someone's purse.
When the two women went to leave, Luke said someone in the wedding party recognized them as acquaintances and tried to stop them.
"While they tried to drive off, one (person from) the wedding party, a female, jumped on the hood of the car to try to stop them," he said.
Luke said that the women wouldn't stop the car, even when another guest tried to bang on the window.
He said the woman who jumped on the hood did that so she wouldn't be hit by the car. He said that guest is OK.
Hunter and Phillips are charged with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.
The Sheriff's Office said the mother, Lisa Phillips Hunter, was driving the getaway car.
Luke said they are still looking for her and that she will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon because she didn't stop the car when one of the guests was on the hood.
"They were trying to get them to stop to give back the items they had taken, they would not stop," he said.
Eyewitness News spoke with the owner of the Morning Glory Farm, where this happened.
The owner told Eyewitness News that they have been doing weddings there for about a year and a half and have never seen anything like this, but are glad no one was hurt.
The Sheriff's Office said that Hunter and Phillips have posted bond and are out of jail.
Eyewitness News tried to speak with some of the guests at the wedding on Monday night, but they did not want to speak on camera.
Eyewitness News tried to contact Hunter and Phillips, but were unable to reach them.
