CHARLOTTE — No rain in Uptown Monday night but something still fell from the sky-shattered glass! It happened around 7:30 p.m. at the Catalyst apartments near Romare Bearden Park.

“Somebody said it looked like it was snowing they could hear it hitting the sides of their buildings,” witness Evan Mason said.

Evan Mason and his friends were walking around Uptown when they heard a loud boom. A window on the 18th floor of the Catalyst shattered, sending shards of glass on people, cars and dogs.

“We could see people getting caught,” Mason said. “People were walking their dogs and we were like ‘yo the glass!’”

Cell phone video obtained by Channel 9 showed the damage to the window. Another video shared with Channel 9 a few stories down showed glass all over the balcony.

“You just heard a sprinkling sound like you just sprinkle ice cream and it went whoosh as soon as it hit the ground,” witness Jared Jackson said.

No one was injured. The spectacle brought an unexpected source of entertainment to the heart of Uptown with some saying they will never look at high rises the same way.

“I don’t think I am walking next to no big buildings no more,” witness Anthony Brenston said. “I think I’m done with the big buildings. It was nice to look at but I don’t want nothing falling on me. That’s like some final destination type stuff.”

There were no visible dead birds that could have struck the window and shattered the glass. Residents of Catalyst told Channel 9 they haven’t been told what happened yet either.
