Firefighters battle Granite Falls house fire in extreme heat

GRANITE FALLS, N.C. — Fire officials responded to a house fire at 5025 Grace Chapel Road in Granite Falls Tuesday morning.

Channel 9 crews were at the scene after 10 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the home.

Several fire departments responded to the fire.

Caldwell County Emergency Services told Channel 9 that the residents were not home at the time of the fire.

The damage was confined to two bedrooms on the main living floor and the basement, but some smoke and heat damage was found throughout the home.

Firefighters said they have responded to the same address twice in the past for large fires.

"We have been here before, but this fire is currently under investigation,” Grace Chapel Fire Chief Bryan Edwards said.

EMT’s checked out some of the volunteer firefighters on scene as they dealt with the extreme heat.

“When you first arrive, the adrenaline is pumping. You don’t really think about it. Once you come out that’s when it really hits you,” Jason Hines with Sawmills Fire said.

Officials said they call in extra resources to rotate crews on hot days.

The fire marshal said both the sheriff’s office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have been called in to investigate.

So far, investigators have ruled the fire incendiary in nature and have asked anyone with information to contact Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office at (828)758- 2324 or Caldwell County Crime Stoppers at (828) 758-8300.
