A family is suing Affinity Living Group after the death of a loved one at a senior care facility.
[9 Investigates: Allegations of poor care at senior living facility in Charlotte]
The group, which operates nearly 20 facilities in the Charlotte area, has had its share of issues with regulators and lawsuits. Melissa Hudson said she will always remember her brother, Anthony Leon Wilson.
He lived at The Parc at Sharon Amity in east Charlotte for more than a decade. The Affinity Living Group facility specializes in memory care.
"He had a brain injury,” Hudson said.
She said she remembers the last time she saw him. "He said, ‘See you tomorrow,’” Hudson said. “That was his favorite saying. When I got that call Sunday morning, I couldn’t believe it.”
The wrongful death lawsuit said staff members collecting trash from his room discovered him suffering from a seizure and the proper administration of his seizure medication was required to prevent a significant seizure event.
The lawsuit claims that the facility “failed to follow physician’s orders promptly and correctly” administer the medication and that its negligence resulted in his death.
Affinity Living Group released the following statement to Channel 9:
“While we traditionally do not comment on pending litigation, and have not been served with a copy of the complaint, medical records show that medications were administered by Parc at Sharon Amity to the resident involved as ordered by the treating physician. We will vigorously defend ourselves in this matter.”
