SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham was booed over the weekend at a Republican event after he encouraged the small crowd to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

“If you haven’t had the vaccine, you need to think about getting it,” Graham said before he was cut off by the crowd. “I didn’t tell you to get it; you need to think about it.”

Graham said at the event in Summerville on Saturday that he doesn’t think the vaccine should be mandated.

“In the military, they can say you’ve got to get vaccinated,” Graham said. “I think that’s a dumb idea. You know why? You can’t be driving people away from service.”

The senator emphasized that 92% of people who have been hospitalized in the Palmetto State are unvaccinated.

Graham said he was concerned that the mandate would drive people out of their jobs and questioned if it was constitutional.
