Alcohol Law Enforcement officials told Channel 9 that Michael Bowens, 48, may have been a former bouncer at the club.

Officers believe Bowens may have been reprimanded earlier in the day Saturday and then stabbed his manager later that night.

Police were called to the club around 10:30 p.m. after security had to carry Bowens out of the club following the stabbing.

The manager suffered serious injuries, but is expected to be OK.

Bowens has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Lawmakers believe a new bill would put more bite in the law and prevent violence at nightclubs.

Senate Bill 11 would give the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission more authority to punish clubs. Officials could suspend a club's permit for up to 3 years, revoke a permit or fine the establishment for any violation.
