CHARLOTTE — James Mason was arrested in connection to the murder of a woman who was killed in a car that crashed down an east Charlotte embankment, according to court documents.

Around 11:20 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2024, police found Kennedi Jones in a crashed car along Shamrock Road near Hickory Grove Road. Jones died at a hospital from her injuries.

An arrest warrant for Mason said he was charged with first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy robbery in connection to the case. The warrant said Mason conspired with another man to steal Jones’ backpack and cell phone before killing her. That man is in jail on unrelated charges.

Dreshon Moreno was also arrested for murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, just days after the crash.

Neither court documents or CMPD explained how Jones died.
