FBI: Man who livestreamed US Capitol insurrection arrested in North Carolina

GARNER, N.C. — Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested a Garner, North Carolina man for crimes related to the violence and insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Stephen Maury Baker was taken into custody and had his initial court appearance on Monday, according to the FBI.

Baker is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

An FBI affidavit dated Jan. 27, shows that investigators were tipped off about Baker through online videos and calls to the FBI tip line. Baker, known online as Stephen Ignoramus, livestreamed himself going into and participating in the US Capitol riot.

Investigators noted that he removed his livestreamed videos days after the riots, as more and more people started getting arrested.

In the immediate aftermath of the riot, Washington Metro police said seven people from North Carolina were among those arrested. Federal agents have arrested more than 100 people across the country as the investigation into the insurrection continues.

On Jan. 19, the FBI announced the arrest of Christopher Raphael Spencer in connection with the riot. Spencer, who is from Pilot Mountain, was taken into custody in Kernersville.
