Sears to close its last department store in North Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Sears store at Friendly Center in Greensboro — the last location in North Carolina for the once-prolific department-store chain — is closing.

A large banner announcing the coming closure hangs on the front of the Sears store at the Greensboro retail center, and closing sales are underway. A specific closing date has not been announced.

CBL Properties, which owns and operates Friendly Center, said plans are underway for filling the space.
