SC highway to be named after deputy shot, killed in October ambush attack

FLORENCE, S.C. — State lawmakers have passed a bill to rename a South Carolina highway after a deputy who was shot and killed during an ambush that left five others injured and another officer killed.

Farrah Turner worked with the Florence Sheriff's Office for more than a decade when she was shot serving a warrant at a Florence home last October.

Now, the Highway 378 Bypass over Highway 52 in Lake City will be named the "Farrah Turner Memorial Bypass."

Turner and Sergeant Terrence Carraway were among seven officers ambushed at the home last year.

Police said Frederick Hopkins opened fire on them when they went to serve his son a search warrant.

Hopkins faces five counts of attempted murder and two counts of murder.

State lawmakers are still working to pass a resolution to name a highway the "Terrence Carraway Memorial Highway."
