CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — The State Bureau of Investigations is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting overnight involving a Caldwell County deputy.

Officials told Channel 9 that deputies responded to a domestic call around 1:20 a.m. on Dudley Shoals Road, in the southern part of the county.
Authorities said an officer-involved shooting took place once they arrived but that no deputies were hurt.
Family members told Channel 9 that the man who lived in the home, Roy Minton, was involved in the shooting with deputies, and that he was shot and killed.
A few hours later, SBI officials were able to confirm that Minton was killed by a deputy.
Authorities said that the deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

Channel 9 watched as the SBI and deputies spent a lot of time in the yard looking for bullets after the deputy fired several shots inside the home.
A neighbor said Minton was armed when a deputy went inside the home, where the officer eventually fired his weapon.
"He had a gun on them and police responded. There's a man with a gun, you know, you ... do what you got to do," neighbor Phillip Ranklin said.
Another neighbor told Channel 9 that she heard several shots fired.
“There was like anywhere between five to seven shots the first time, then it was like a pause,” said neighbor Diane Wencel. “Then it was like five shots, after that ... it was over.”
Several holes could be seen on the side of the trailer where the deputy's bullets exited.
Neighbors told Channel 9 that deputies had been called to the home multiple times in the past.
In 2014, Minton's wife took out a domestic-violence order claiming Minton sent threatening texts and also threatened her with a shotgun.
Eyewitness News also learned that Minton's 13-year-old son was in the home at the time of the shooting but was not hurt.
"I'm going to miss him real bad because he's a good guy, man, and I miss his son already. I wish this hadn't have happened,” Dwight Church said.
"If you can't get along you just need to go your separate ways. There shouldn't be none of this going on. It's a sad situation," neighbor Sandra Oaks said.
Eyewitness News was the only crew on the scene and could see crime tape up around the home.
Channel 9 is still trying to confirm if the SBI recovered a weapon from the home.
