CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A man was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Caldwell County Friday morning, according to authorities.
Officials said a Caldwell County deputy was responding to a call about a suspicious person along Miller Hill Road in Lenoir when he shot and killed a man.
An eyewitness told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty that the man who was shot was in the road not wearing a shirt when he was stopped by the deputy.
The witness could not say whether or not the man had a weapon, but said the man took a step toward the deputy and that’s when the deputy fired his gun several times, killing him.
The deputy was not hurt.

Channel 9 spoke to a woman who lives nearby about the case.
“I’m like, 'Oh no ... ohh my God.’ I just hate that there was any confrontation and this had to happen,” she said.
The sheriff’s office told Faherty that they do have body cam video and the SBI will review it before forwarding their investigation to the district attorney.
Investigators said like any officer-involved shooting, the deputy is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
