SALISBURY, N.C. — Local, state and federal law enforcement say violent crime is down to its lowest point in years in Salisbury.

For years, Channel 9 has reported on significant violent crimes in the area and much of it spurred by gangs. But local, state and federal agencies have come together to implement a program called “Project Safe Neighborhoods.”

In just one year of working with each other and former convicted criminals in the community, they’ve been able to drastically reduce crime numbers in Salisbury.

“We said violence in Salisbury is going to stop. Either you will leave the life and put down guns or we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of federal and state law,” said Matthew Martin, United States Attorney for North Carolina’s Middle District.
