SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion’s plans to expand its store network via acquisition are moving forward.
The Salisbury-based grocery chain announced earlier this year it had reached an agreement to buy 62 Bi-Lo and Harveys Supermarket stores from parent company Southeastern Grocers.
Now, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has granted early termination of the waiting period tied to that deal — satisfying one condition necessary to close that transaction.
The grocer is actively recruiting and expects to hire more than 4,650 employees for those stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
