CHARLOTTE — Hundreds of runners took off in Charlotte’s Runway 5K Saturday morning for a good cause.

The event, which is in its 15th year, took place at Charlotte International Douglas Airport as 1,500 runners took part.

Participants were able run down a runway and the airport’s taxiways. The race helps raise money to fund “Airport Opportunity Scholarships”, which benefits aviation careers and economic opportunities in the Charlotte area.
