ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Neighbors in Rowan County contacted Channel 9 saying they can’t get their mail, preventing them from receiving items like medications, bills, and holiday cards.
Some said the challenges with the East Spencer Post Office have lasted for a year. With the holidays in full swing, they said they needed to know their packages can get where they need to go, and vice versa.
Carolyn Logan told Channel 9 anchor Susanna Black she’s been fighting for more than a year to get problems at the post office fixed for herself and other residents.

“I feel like I’m having to spend a lot of time here because I’m still looking for a card for my son that’s been mailed that I haven’t gotten yet,” Logan said.
She said the office has been frequently closed without notice, which once delayed a box full of supplies for her son who has autism. She said the scales at the post office are inaccurate so post is often too expensive, and mail also gets lost or is put into the wrong box.
“Especially people who get medicine in the mail -- do you know how important that is that you get your medicine?” Logan asked. “I mean, that’s nothing to play around with.”
Logan said she’s spoken with the postmaster several times but after seeing little change, she’s taking her complaints a step further. She and local nonprofit “The High Road Incorporated,” run by former Salisbury City Councilman Kenny Hardin, are asking lawmakers to conduct a federal audit into the post office.
Channel 9 reached out to Congressman Ted Budd’s office, who said his office “...is aware of this situation and has brought the concerns of these constituents directly to the attention of the USPS.”
“I want to make sure the East Spencer post office has the same things as the other post office, that we’re not short-changed because we don’t deserve to be short-changed,” Logan said.
Channel 9 also reached out to the East Spencer postmaster to get his side of the story but has not heard back.
