SPENCER, N.C. — A man and woman have been charged after police and deputies searched their Rowan County apartment Wednesday and discovered they were growing marijuana, officials said.
After getting a tip about a marijuana growing operation, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office and Spencer Police Department went to the apartment of 25-year-old Cori Brooks Mayhew and 28-year-old Zachary Lance.

Authorities found seven marijuana plants inside a special container with grow lights and a cooling system.
Mayhew and Lance were charged with manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
This is not Mayhew's first brush with the law. She was charged in 2016 with shooting her boyfriend in the face.
