Rolling Stones announce Charlotte summer tour date at Bank of America Stadium

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Update: Due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 the Charlotte date has been postponed. The rescheduled date is still to be determined.

A year ago, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper told reporters he regretted not landing the Rolling Stones for a 2019 summer tour date.

On Monday afternoon, the scoreboard at Bank of America Stadium flashed the British rock band’s famous lips logo next to the words, “Miss You,” an apt tease for a tour announcement, as well as the name of the band’s 1978 single.

On Thursday morning, it was official -- the Stones will play at Bank of America Stadium on July 1 as part of their No Filter tour.

The last time the band played in Charlotte was Oct. 21, 2005, when they christened the opening of the former Charlotte Bobcats Arena (now Spectrum Center).

If you’re keeping count, this is the fourth major concert announcement involving the stadium since last fall, when the Panthers and concert promoter Live Nation announced that Billy Joel would perform at the venue on April 18 (rescheduled to April 17, 2021).

Country music star Garth Brooks will perform an in-the-round concert at the stadium on May 2 and Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will be there on July 11.
