ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill will have its first new mayor in 20 years.
There are still more ballots to count but Rock Hill Sports Commission Chair John Gettys leads the race with 52 percent of the vote. York County Councilmember William “Bump” Roddey had 48 percent.
Thirty-six of 39 precincts have reported into the Board of Elections as of Wednesday morning.
The outstanding ballots are the provisional, fail-safe and emergency paper ballots.
Roddey believes the city is “dead broke."
Gettys disagrees and said the city is headed toward growth.
The non-partisan race went to a runoff since none of the candidates won more than 50 percent of the vote in last month's election.
