ROCK HILL, S.C. — An 11-year-old Rock Hill boy started a foundation to supply other children with clothes and school supplies, according to Channel 9's partners at The Herald.
Jordan Hinnant, a sixth-grader at Saluda Trail Middle School, said he knew he wanted to help people after students teased a boy in his fifth-grade class for not having new clothes.
"I realized how lucky I was to have the stuff I have, and I wanted other kids to have it too," Jordan said.
Jordan told his mother, Chandra Foster, that he wanted to help the boy, so they bought clothes and gave them to a school counselor who passed them on to the boy.
Jordan didn’t stop with that kind gesture and created the Jordan Hinnant Foundation LLC.
Foster and Jordan's father, Antwaun Hinnant, help him collect new and gently used book bags, clothing, shoes and school supplies.
“The average 11-year-old doesn’t think too much about the next person,” Antwaun Hinnant told The Herald. “This is all him. It wasn’t his mother’s idea. It wasn’t my idea. It was something he came up with.”
Foster is filling out paperwork to register the foundation as a nonprofit.
They have a donation event set for 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at Confederate Park in Rock Hill.
